And so it begins.............

Clearing the way.... The firewood falls.
Fall 2012:
After deciding not to sell the house to solve our space needs, twenty trees came crashing down this year. In preparation for something. Was it a sideways expansion? Comfort sleeping through an ice storm at 3:00am?  There were a lot of schemes on the table, but it turns out it was preparation for the final outcome, a new second floor full of bedrooms, bathrooms and even a laundry room.....a renovated house in the 'hood that we love on the property we love.

Spring 2013:
With the direction clear, drawings were completed. Bids were received. Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. Culminating in our building permit being issued Just before the fourth of July. Everything was lined up.

Summer 2013:
We spent most of the previous holiday weekend clearing house through alot of excitement and a few butted heads. The dust settled late last night and we settled into our summer home, that's right, we're one of those people with a summer home. Yeah. We are thankful that while the chaos ensues we have a place to lay our heads.  So, I wiped the sweat from my brow, turned on the window fan, and settled into my new queen bed.  A "short" queen that is, for those of you not familiar with the term for a really short bed in a tin box.  The summer home I mention is our brand new used traveler trailer parked in the back yard. It's the place we'll call home for the next four months.  (For the record, a short queen is about 60"x70" and I am 73" long).

The Summer Home has arrived.
Morning came, with the house vacated, our possessions in storage, and an ache in back.  Shauna, Norah and Roddie were making do trying to adjust to the new digs.  I suppose the kids are resilient enough for a change like this not to seem so big at time.  This was evidenced by Roddie's uncontrollable tantrum that I had the audacity to move his newly acquired coy coupe Police car. Still the excitement was there.  I met with Tim, our contractor, went over a few things, handed him the key, and the renovation begins.  The electricians are working on the temp power and a hook up for the trailer and the tin box will get a little more comfortable.  Hopefully, our friends at the electric company have a quick step.

This blog will document the transformation of our 1960's ranch house into a new two story colonial.  Hope you enjoy.
